Nature is coming for America

But I’m not sure on this basis that a Trump victory in November would tip the scales back toward the American republic of collective nostalgia. From what I can make out, across the pond, that the ability to collect for prosocial purposes already exists in abundance, in efforts to help local Americans. Meanwhile, so far, the main steps from the Trumpist camp seem to be the first that increased distrust in the government, and the second is the donation of Elon Musk.

This latest action is particularly important for the emerging Right-wing alliance, as it did not come in the form of food, cars, workers, or cleaning efforts, but the distribution of routers of Starlink satellite wi-fi. Well, to me, it symbolizes a new “fusionism” emerging from the cold ashes of the Reaganite variety of the 20th century.

The “New Right” has long been divided on what this should look like. Musk’s Starlink transmitters provide the answer. After all, what good is a Starlink connection when your house has been destroyed by a tornado and the woods are full of bears? Well, one answer is that if you can go online it is very easy to arrange help. In other words, an internet connection help the classic American sociopolitical model to emerge again from “totalitarian” technological control.

“What good is a Starlink connection, after all, when your house has been destroyed by a tornado and the woods are full of bears?”

Similarly, since his purchase of the social platform X, Musk has been an active advocate of restoring the free speech culture of the republic. But it is also true that devolution hides new forms of control. My speech on X is not as free as, say, a private conversation between two bear hunters in 18th century New Hampshire – because Elon Musk owns the platform I use to speak. The same goes for Starlink, which remains a decentralized tool for as long as Musk wants it to be.

What all this represents is a Right-wing consensus that opposes the post-liberal “totality” – but not. well by trying to revive the republicanism of the 18th century. Where the post-liberal Left’s dreams of human freedom are dominated by an omniscient system, for the post-liberal Right, the way forward looks like a technological structure run by an Olympian team of plutocrats and capitalists, where ordinary people are present or few. they have given up on self-evaluation.

At a low level, this may look like a liberal and successful role for those who are able to create a strong local community for active support, while taking advantage of job opportunities or political organization that provided by digital transformation. And similarly, for those who lack the connections, skills, or knowledge to succeed, it probably means “the devil takes over”.

What does any of this matter to the British Isles, which are thousands of miles away and (thankfully) not guilty of “recovering” a bear? Well, as long as Europe lives in the shadow of the American government, while the Free State sneezes the whole world is cold. So if we are to end up with a post-liberal Right-wing government at the imperial core, perhaps, in due course, we will need to rediscover our methods of regional cooperation. . Although the bears that worry us are only those of the depressed, oligarch-owned, and increasingly American stock markets of London.
